I don't know about dramatic, but a Road Trip that sticks in my mind is a trip to Italy with three of my girlie friends from work, probably more years ago now than I want to add up.
We drove to Monaco, along the coast into Italy, and ended up at Lake Como. We were fairly new friends then, and that trip was a trip where we sang along loud to 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You', attempted to speak Italian to cute waiters, gambled in Monaco and lost, and generally giggled and laughed. We had to cut going to Pisa because we'd been COMPLETELY over-ambitious with how much driving we'd get done in a day. I have still never been to Pisa.
The four of us are still a tight friendship square now, among my very best friends (even though one of us doesn't live in the UK anymore).
One thing we did do, was take part in a Festival, which involved a torchlit procession. We discovered that giving clumsy ole' me a NAKED FLAME is a VERY BAD IDEA. I nearly set fire to the trees. To my friend's hair. To my own hair. My torch was eventually confiscated for my own safety. To this day if we are in a restaurant with a naked candle, they move it out of my way.
Which is probably a good thing.
So: the Girls in Italy. How about you?
Oh my, no more fires, please, ;)!! That sounds like an *amazing* trip. I can't really think of my most windswept trip at the moment...but I'm sure I had one lol.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the Doctor Who episode, "The Long Game," where the Doctor tells newbie (and short-lived) traveling companion Adam:
ReplyDelete"...time travel is like visiting Paris. You can't just read the guide book. You've got to throw yourself in, eat the food, use the wrong verbs, get charged double and end up kissing complete strangers - or is that just me? Stop asking questions. Go and do it!"
I don't know about kissing complete strangers, but it sounds like you all went and did Italy! Great story. :)
I am actually jealous that you can quote whole paragraphs of Doctor Who. Which is easily the best TV show in the world! :)
DeleteConfession: I looked it up. I remembered sort-of the quote, but I hunted it down online to make sure I had it verbatim. And yes, Doctor Who is, by far, the best TV show in the world. :)
DeleteRandi - it was a really fun trip!!
ReplyDeleteColin - AWESOME quote!! Love it!
This sounds like fun. I love how road trips can really set up life long friendships.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun trip! I love hitting the road with friends.
ReplyDeleteThat trip sounds so much fun. I would love to go to Monaco. I have also never been to Pisa, but it is definitely on my to-see list. I've almost been to Lake Como - if you count Lake Garda as almost! You must be brave though, to drive through Italy. Not the safest drivers in the world, in my experience!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny about the flame. (Glad no one was hurt though!)
ReplyDeleteThe flame is too funny! My family is notorious for setting things on fire (my dad once burned down part of my neighbor's house... oops).
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun trip, though! I can only imagine driving along the coast. It must have been gorgeous.
Save for the sire incident it sounds like an AMAZING road trip! So incredible driving around Monaco and Italy!!
ReplyDelete**Fire!
ReplyDeleteI've never been on a road trip with friends. Our road trips usually consisted of packing the van and going somewhere...anywhere my dad felt like going that particular weekend. =) I miss that.
ReplyDeleteSounds aaaaaaaaaaawesome! I need to go to Monaco and Italy. It's not like Europe's that far away from the UK :P
ReplyDeleteOooh, Italy and Monaco would be such a fun area to explore! And lol, you need to make a Fire is Dangerous PSA now :)
ReplyDeletehaha. Sounds like a great time. Would love to visit Italy!
ReplyDeleteAllison (Geek Banter)
A road trip in Italy sounds amazing! My best friend now lives in England and we took a few mini road trips with her to different cities. It was so fun to do little trips within a trip, to see more of the country.
ReplyDeleteI took a road drip down the west coast of California - winding roads opening up to vistas of blue ocean, creaming breakers, beaches that were just calling to me to get out and walk. Then I went inland through artichoke fields (artichokes are like giant thistles).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories!
Diana - ahhh that sounds like an awesome road trip!
